Tetris Effect drops psychedelic PS4 trailer from space

More announcements are set for every morning, 8 a.m. PT, leading up to PlayStation's showcase on June 11, including two more VR games set for reveal on Saturday and Sunday.

Tetris is one of the most recognizable game brands in the world. Rather than the usual pre-show presentation, the company is doing daily reveals of games, and it's starting today with the announcement of Tetris Effect.

The game will be made by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Enhance Games - the creators of Lumines and Rez - and will not only be playable at E3 2018 but might also have a demo launch on PlayStation 4 later this year. As both the trailer and website point out, the Tetris Effect happens when "players' brains are so engrossed that images of the iconic falling Tetrimino blocks (i.e. the Tetris playing pieces) linger in their vision, thoughts, and even dreams".

Fully playable on either a standard display (up to 4K and 60fps on a PS4™Pro), or optionally in mind-blowing 3D on PS VR.

Includes the all-new "Zone" mechanic, where players can stop time (and Tetriminos falling) by entering "the Zone" and either get out of a sticky situation that could otherwise lead to "Game Over", or rack up extra line clears for bonus rewards.

Tetris Effect looks like something cooked up by Marvel's Doctor Strange, as it attempts to amplify this phenomenon with some fantastic imagery, shapes and colors, combined with hypnotic music and sounds. So, how will Tetris Effect actually play?

The press release did not mention full exclusivity, but not other platforms were mentioned, at least for now.
