National Football League player Laurent Duvernay-Tardif graduates medical school

The Kansas City Chiefs starting right guard received his doctorate in medicine Tuesday from McGill University. Some people will never even manage to do one thing or the other, but to do both at the same time is nothing short of incredible. "For all those kids out there who are questioning themselves about whether they should go to school to pursue hockey or football and still study something like medicine, now there's someone who's done it".

However, he never stopped pursuing his doctorate, which he began working towards eight years ago, and he's now the first active player in National Football League history to have earned a medical degree. "It kind of gives you perspective".

"With the NFL's rules regarding dress code being so strict I'm not sure how well it's going to go", he said. He said being a part-time resident might be hard, but he's managed to find away in the past.

But Duvernay-Tardif said residency will have to wait, at least for now.

"I've been working for this for the past eight years and to finally graduate is huge". Exploring the world and embracing different cultures helped me be more open and to follow my dream.

Earlier this offseason Duvernay-Tardif said he wanted the National Football League to allow him to add "M.D." to the end of his name on his Chiefs jersey - which the National Football League should allow without a second thought. "I want to try and inspire as many kids as I can and show them it's possible to combine a passion for sport and high education at the same time". "He was trusting me that I was going to be accountable and I was training here (in Montreal)".

He made the quick trip to graduation in Canada but will turn around nearly immediately and head back to Kansas City to rejoin his team-mates for voluntary organised team activities, ESPN reported.

Duvernay-Tardif said he wouldn't have time to celebrate his graduation.

"If I make it to the Pro Bowl in the same year that I graduate from medicine... and win the Super Bowl, then I don't know what I'm going to do", he told the news outlet.
