"Active shooter" taken into custody at Indiana middle school

Two people were in critical condition and a shooter was in custody after a shooting Friday morning in Noblesville West Middle School.

"There a male student at Noblesville West Middle School who has been detained", said Kevin Jowitt, Noblesville Chief of Police.

The students were evacuated to Noblesville High School.

"A male student asked to be excused from class and came back with two handguns", Jowitt said. The suspect was not injured.

It's unclear if the teacher is the one injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Two people were shot, a 13-year-old girl and a teacher.

Jason Seaman, who has been a science teacher for Noblesville schools for almost four years and a seventh-grade football coach for two years, was the teacher shot, according to multiple parents.

The middle school was on lockdown part of the morning, said Jackie Chatteron, a receptionist for the school district. The officer shot and wounded the suspect, who was arrested before anyone else could be injured.

"Here we go again".

A West Middle student, Luke Daniels, said, "We were getting ready to take our speeches for social studies about the world leaders and we heard Mr. (Matthew) Hicks (the assistant principal) come on and say, ". This time the incident took place in a middle school north of Indianapolis.

Eighth-grader Chris Navarro said he was inside an auditorium when he counted hearing 16 gunshots about a minute before the bell rang for the change in classes.

Around 11:10 a.m., police led someone in handcuffs from the high school into a police SUV. "And I had to calm her down and what's going on".

After a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School left two injured, in politicians and leaders responded with statements offering support for families and first responders. They have no information other than it is a communicated threat.

Both individuals are alive, but their condition is unknown. IN police told WLFI they were "sending everyone" to the scene. Detectives are investigating how the student got the guns he had, and police have issued several search warrants.

After the attack, students were bused to the Noblesville High School gym, where their families could retrieve them.

Gov. Eric Holcomb, who is on the inaugural flight from Paris to Indianapolis, also tweeted: "Speaker Bosma, Pro Tem Long and I are monitoring the situation at Noblesville West Middle School from the air on our return trip to Indianapolis from Europe", Holcomb said in a statement.

"We didn't know what was going on", the freshman said, but she was relieved when she learned it was only a bomb threat at the high school. "NPD will have more info when it's available".
