American Idol season gets a Disney-worthy ending

After weeks of giving everything up in the live performances and the excruciating pressure during the voting rounds, American Idol finally determined a victor. But in the end only one of them won big.

The "American Idol" finale for 2018 ended with a dramatic twist that saw the victor, Maddie Poppe, clinch the title from her boyfriend, Caleb Lee Hutchinson.

On Monday night, Maddie Poppe was crowned this season's victor of the reality singing competition, which ABC revived in March with star judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. After everyone died down, Ryan reminded Maddie and Caleb that they're "a couple and they're competing for the title".

Winner Maddie, 20, stayed mum on the relationship, but did admit she's excited to record with her new boyfriend. ABC's version of American Idol would seem to be making as many matchups as its hit dating show.

This wasn't necessarily surprising as, throughout the competition, Miz Poppe was known for her unique voice and artistic ability.

You can catch the top 7 - Poppe, Hutchinson, Barrett, Turner, Woodard, Jurnee and Cade Foehner - on tour across the US this summer with American Idol Live!, which kicks off July 11 in Redding, Calif.

Then came Maddie Poppe's heartfelt words to Caleb.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the next American Idol.

Caleb was smitten the moment he met her. "But now? Now it's just ruined because it was very obviously staged with her and Caleb", one user wrote of the surprise announcement.

The results are in on the rebooted "American Idol" and the winning contestant is.

Caleb blushed when asked if he was "in love", coyly replying, "I mean, you know..."

For two hours of filler, the most padded an episode has been all season, it was very watchable, from the duets (Ada Vox and Patti LaBelle, Nick Jonas and Jurnee) to the random bits.

"American Idol is rigged", another remarked.
