Mom accused in Fairfield child abuse case in court today

The matter unfolded March 31 when the oldest child, a 12-year-old boy described as developmentally delayed with the capacity of an 8-year-old, disappeared from his house in the 2000 block of Fieldstone Court. The 10 children were taken into protective custody by Solano County Child Welfare services and then placed in the care of other family members.

Rogers, 30, was arrested on suspicion of neglect last month and released after posting $10,000 bail.

A father in California is facing seven counts of felony torture and nine counts of felony child abuse after police rescued ten children-ranging from 4 months to 12 years old-from the family home.

Jonathan Allen, left, and Ina Rogers, right, were arrested after police found 10 children living in "horrible" conditions in their Fairfield, California home.

Urine, human and animal feces, garbage and rotten food littered the floor, police said, and heaps of debris blocked off parts of the house.

Hurlbut said the investigation revealed a "long and continuous history of severe physical and emotional abuse of the children".

Prosecutors say the 10 children who were found living in a squalid Northern California home were waterboarded, shot with crossbows, BBs, kicked, punched and had scalding water poured on them.

"My kids get bumped and bruised and scratched because they're kids, but that's it". She's scheduled to appear in court on the new charges Wednesday. Sharon Henry, the county's chief deputy district attorney, said they were tortured "for sadistic purposes". She also faces 1 count of child neglect involving all 10 children.

The alleged abuse was done with "sadistic goal", Henry said during a news conference.

"Based upon what the children stated in their interviews, we believe torture occurred in this house", Henry said at a news conference.

Some of the children, police said, described incidents of intentional abuse dating to 2014 - puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with an airsoft or BB gun.

Rogers could not be reached Monday evening for comments.

The Solano County alternate public defender's office has just been appointed to Allen's case, Roberto Najera said.

But Rogers said the home was messy because she had been searching for her son who had run off after his computer was confiscated.

"My husband is an unbelievable person", she said. Rogers denied the children were mistreatment. Neighbors said the grandmother is very loving, taking the children to school and on errands since both parents are in jail.

She told ABC: "I strive, I thrive on being a good parent to my children".

The children's father, 29-year-old Jonathan Allen, pleaded not guilty to torture and child cruelty charges. "The police demonized me all the way down to the names I picked for my children", Allen said.

The prosecutor alleged the mother assisted her husband in the abuse by telling their children not to report injuries that included broken arms.

She told San Francisco's KNTV channel: "He would take the baby and slap it in the face and put duct tape on the baby's mouth to make it shut up".

Rogers gave journalists a tour of the house, a four-bedroom home with scuffed walls and animal feces in the bathroom. Neighbors of the quiet cul-de-sac told NBC Bay Area that police had their guns drawn during his arrest.

Rogers said she felt unfairly judged for her lifestyle. "He said the demons were making him do it". He told her it was unlikely her son was in his back yard because his dog would have barked, he said, according to the Chronicle.

She denied Monday her husband had abused the children.

"It's a pretty big house", Magnaye said.
