Why Fox Revived Tim Allen's 'Last Man Standing,' in Their Words

It appears as though Fox won't be shying away from any controversy surrounding the revival, and instead is prepared to throw a lot of marketing weight behind it.

Still, Walden stressed that the success of "Roseanne" wasn't the sole factor for giving Allen, 64, the green light. Walden added, "We always felt like ABC didn't really prioritize Last Man Standing".

"Tim's personal politics really aren't a big feature of the show", Newman said.

This fall, the network will put the comedy in its Fridays at 8 p.m. ET time slot, hoping that it will draw some of the same viewers who tune in for Thursday Night Football the previous evening - an audience for whom Newman says Last Man Standing is "tailor-made".

Whatever the case, FOX may also reap some benefits from the notoriety wielded by the conservative Tim Allen, as well as the fact that most Tim Allen characters are not-so-loosely based upon Tim Allen.

ABC denied Allen's political views played a role in its decision, saying the show's cancellation was motivated by "business and scheduling reasons". The show never really delved deeply into political views.

"The Cool Kids:" Stars David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence and Leslie Jordan, this is about a group of pals who live in a retirement community. For the first time, football will occupy all of Fox's Thursday-night schedule throughout the fall and early winter. "It's performed best in our Sunday night lineup, and we made a decision this year, which was, we wanted to give Bob's Burgers, the Emmy-winning, huge performer for us, an opportunity to have a plum time period and to really grow".

"Rel:" "Inspired" by the life of Lil Rel Howery, who was a breakout on NBC's "The Carmichael Show" and was the security guard, and hero, of "Get Out".

For midseason, Fox has ordered "The Passage", a drama about a 10-year-old girl who is a test subject at a secret government facility experimenting with a virus that could be a cure for all disease or doom the human race. The series is based on a series of books by Justin Cronin.

Walden also shared that despite initial interest in bringing "Last Man Standing" over to Fox after its ABC cancellation, the right opportunity just wasn't there quite yet, despite growing demand from fans. No decision has been made on new-season pickups for "L.A.to Vegas" and "Ghosted".
