Apple hit with lawsuit over Macbook's "defective" butterfly keyboard

Apple hit with lawsuit over Macbook's

In 2015, Apple switched the keyboard for the MacBook and the MacBook Pro to the "butterfly" model. This was first spotted by AppleInsider, which also has access to the lawsuit statement.

"Every one of Apple's current-gen MacBook Pro models, 13" and 15", is sold with a keyboard that can become defective at any moment due to a design failure", the consumers wrote on the petition.

According to a news report by CNet, a class-action complaint was filed against Apple because of issues with the MacBook keyboard issues.

The class action was filed in the Northern District Court of California and sites complaints of a finicky keyboard that failed for some users after only one month of use.

The plaintiffs are seeking legal fees and damages, and also want Apple to publicly admit to a design flaw.

The investigation clearly resonated with MacBook owners, because soon after, more than 17,000 people signed a Change.org petition demanding that Apple recall all MacBooks with butterfly switch keyboards.

The "butterfly" mechanism replaced the older "scissor" mechanism, which is still used by the majority of laptop keyboards, and was meant to make the keys more stable and responsive when pressed.

The claim takes after a reiteration of grievances crosswise over client discussions, authority media and an appeal to with more than 21,000 marks encouraging Apple to review the Mac PCs discharged since late 2016. This includes reimbursement for the purchase of replacement laptops.

A little more than three years ago, Apple just announced a new MacBook with a "butterfly" keyboard that was 40 percent thinner than its predecessor, and ostensibly four times more stable than the previous "scissor" mechanism that MacBooks employed. Their 37-page MacBook lawsuit claims Apple knew that this design was flawed in 2015 used it anyway, concealing the problems from the public. If the laptop was under warranty then customers could get this done free of cost, however, an out-of-warranty fix could cost as much as $700.

To further add to the problems of unlucky owners of MacBooks with faulty keyboards, Apple's solution to the problem is two-fold. Apple also released support documents detailing a method of cleaning the keyboard with a can of compressed air, which users claimed to be quite ineffective. While Mac systems have typically been the choice of many digital professionals, Apple's influence in the notebook and desktop market has been waning as the company has been unresponsive to the demands of power users who have long acted as product ambassadors.
