Apple Is Done With 3D Touch, Says Trusted Analyst

Expect Apple to unveil its new affordable $550 iPhone with large 6.3-inch screen later this summer, if rumours prove accurate. It's a complex technology made of specialized sensors integrated into the iPhone's display that determines how hard a user is pressing.

The iPhone X - Apple's tenth anniversary smartphone - was supposed to be the best yet, but it seems the public have been less-than-impressed by the phone's features and, more likely, its hefty price tag.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at KGI Securities, believes that this may be the start of a general phase-out of 3D Touch across the iPhone range, and that by 2019 the technology will have disappeared completely.

Apple may not include a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter with the iPhone models it will reveal later this year, according to Barclays analysts. It's possible he got bored with Apple after years of writing analyst reports.

Apple is expected to keep this iPhone 2018 variant's price hedged lower, and to counter the CGS display's expensive cost, the Cupertino-based tech firm will have to remove the 3D Touch feature. Though it's hard to imagine for anyone to be disappointed if this feature was to be removed, there are a bunch of 3D Touch loyalists out there, as Gizmodo notes, and they swear by its convenience. But what we know is, the addition of it will raise the cost of the production of the iPhone display from $23 to $26 (15% increase).

While results on Tuesday will likely show slower Apple growth, this broader iPhone strategy could revive sales when the new devices come out toward the end of 2018.

With AAPL share price falling 9% over the past couple of weeks, and talk about investor panic, you might think the sky was falling on iPhone sales. There are little details on this technology and the changes that Apple will make for its next devices but it sounds like the 3D Touch feature won't be around for long. The company is also planning to sell the iPhone X for a lot less money, this year around. How often do you use this feature?
